Biography

Professor Houshang Seyhoun graduated with "Diplome d'Etat" from "Ecole Superieure des Beaux Arts" in Paris , France in 1949.

He studied with architecture legends, Auguste Perret and Andre Godard with whom he defended his dissertation on the designed monument of "Avicenna", the father of modern medicine.

At the age of 28, Seyhoun was awarded the commission to build the grand granite and poured concrete structure, in Hamedan , Iran , the birth place of " Avicenna", to remain this great man's eternal resting place for centuries to come.

For twenty years, until 1969, Seyhoun served as the Professor and later the powerful Dean of School of Architecture and Fine Arts at Tehran University , in the same tradition of "Beaux Arts" in Paris . He went back to private practice and served as a singular force in all major urban development and architectural preservation of the historic sites worldwide. Professor Seyhoun, has served as an active member on several national and international councils such as; LC.O.M.O.S., which is appointed by UNESCO to preserve and restore the architectural heritage of mankind. He departed from the land, which he so passionately loved and illustrated in his book, "Regards sur Flran", to take residence in Paris , in 1980. He received his honourary French Citizenship in 1981 and has been residing in Vancouver , Canada , since 1982.

His half century legacy in art and in architecture, is celebrated in a soon to be released limited edition book, to serve as a legendary document of his lifelong achievements. Seyhoun has exerted profound influence in the education of a generation of over 3400 architects and fine artists. He imbued the discipline of Paris 's Beaux Arts in his students. At home, Seyhoun achieved a stature in architecture equivalent to Frank Lloyd Wright in this country. Currently, Seyhoun's many students practice and interpret his environmental approach to architecture in many cities worldwide and especially in the United States .

Professor Seyhoun and his students have erected most public buildings and monuments in his native Iran . His architectural legacy include over one thousand private villas. Upon receiving his Master's degree he was awarded the French Government's scholarship to further his architectural studies in post World-Warn Paris.

Professor Seyhoun has been lecturing world wide and has served as an editorial consultant for "L"Architecture Francaise". His fine works have been exhibited in many major cities and museums since 1952, including an exhibition at University of Massachusetts with SALVADOR DALI and PICASSO, Spring of 1972. He is part of the permanent collection at Harvard University , MIT, Washington University , University of California , Berkeley and "Le Muses Hors Du Temps De Pierrefeu", Nice , France .
